Bengaluru to Get New Terminal at Devanahalli Station

In a bid to alleviate congestion at Bengaluru's railway stations, the Minister of State (MoS) for Railways, V. Somanna, announced plans for a new terminal at Devanahalli Railway Station. The minister made this announcement while inspecting ongoing infrastructure works at Hoodi Halt, Whitefield, and Carmelaram stations.

During the inspection, Somanna also highlighted the Rs 12 billion development underway at KSR Bengaluru station, which is being carried out under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The government plans to add two additional platforms to KSR Bengaluru station, with an estimated budget of Rs 1.8 billion for the project.

The MoS further shared details about the ongoing circular railway network project around Bengaluru, covering 280 km, which aims to accommodate the rising footfall in the city. The network is expected to ease congestion and improve commuter experience.

Additionally, the two suburban rail corridors—Benniganahalli to Chikkabanavara (25 km) and Heelalige to Rajanukunte (46.8 km)—are slated for completion by March 2027, according to Somanna. He assured that the Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Ltd (KRIDE) and the Railways are working diligently to meet the project deadlines.

The minister also mentioned that the quadrupling of the railway line between Bengaluru Cantonment and Whitefield is progressing rapidly, which will significantly enhance connectivity between these key locations.

However, Somanna acknowledged the primary challenge of managing rainwater drainage during the project and emphasised the need for improvements. A focus will be placed on constructing and upgrading Road Over Bridges (ROBs), Road Under Bridges (RUBs), underpasses, and water vents to ensure smooth traffic flow and proper drainage.
