HMRTC Plans Second Power Line For Rapid Metro After Gurgaon Blackout

Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the Delhi-Faridabad Metro line, a new extension intended to provide hassle-free travel for zero point two million (mn) daily commuters between the national capital and the industrial hub in Haryana. The extension links Badarpur with Escorts Mujesar in Faridabad and will improve regional connectivity. Officials said the extension will ease pressure on existing road links and support commuter flows across the National Capital Region.

The project cost was reported at Rs 25 billion (bn). The Haryana government bore Rs 15.57 bn of the cost, the central government contributed Rs 5.37 bn, and the Delhi Metro Corporation provided Rs 4 bn towards the extension. Haryana's share accounted for around 62 per cent of the total, the central contribution was about 21 per cent, and the Delhi Metro contribution represented roughly 16 per cent.

The nine stations on the corridor are Sarai, NHPC Chowk, Mewala Maharajpur, Sector 28, Badkal Mor, Old Faridabad, Neelam Chowk Ajronda, Bata Chowk and Escorts Mujesar. All the stations are elevated and sit on either side of the Delhi-Mathura Road (NH-2), serving residential and industrial catchments.

A Haryana government spokesperson noted that the nine-station corridor was 95 per cent indigenously built and would offer a safe, affordable, quick, comfortable, reliable, environment-friendly and sustainable transport facility for commuters. Officials said the extension would support last-mile connectivity and help integrate Faridabad more closely with the National Capital Region transport network.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar thanked the Prime Minister for the new service and said it would take the city to another level of progress through improved connectivity with other NCR towns. He also indicated that the Prime Minister would announce a go-ahead for a metro link connecting Gurgaon with Faridabad, as part of wider regional integration plans.
