PCMC to Present Smart City Plan in Pune on August 20

The civic body has announced plans to present a comprehensive proposal to the general body on August 20 to launch a series of smart city projects. This ambitious initiative, spearheaded by Pimpri Chinchwad Smart City, aims to significantly enhance the city's infrastructure and technological capabilities.

As part of the project, a vast 750 km optical fibre network will be laid across the city, providing a robust foundation for high-speed internet and communication services. Additionally, CCTV cameras will be installed at numerous traffic junctions to improve surveillance and ensure better traffic management. To further support connectivity, 270 Wi-Fi hotspots will be established in strategic locations, offering free internet access to the public.

Moreover, 60 smart city kiosks will be set up throughout the city, providing residents and visitors with easy access to information and services. The project also includes the installation of 150 variable message displays. These displays will broadcast real-time updates on traffic conditions, city-centric issues, and emergency-related services, keeping the public well-informed and enhancing the overall efficiency of city operations.

The entire project will be executed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, ensuring collaboration between the government and private sector for optimal results. Municipal commissioner Shravan Hardikar stated that the initiative will receive Rs 5.93 billion for area-based development, specifically targeting the regions of Pimple Saudagar and Wakad. Additionally, Rs 5.55 billion will be allocated for pan-city solutions, which will address broader infrastructural and technological needs across the city.

This smart city project represents a significant step towards modernising Pimpri Chinchwad, enhancing the quality of life for its residents, and setting a benchmark for urban development in the region.
