Ashghal and SAUR Begin Operational Phase for Wastewater Services

Ashghal, Qatar's Public Works Authority, and SAUR have moved into the operational phase of wastewater services under Ashghal's partnership framework as mobilisation and transition activities concluded. The move aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the State's sustainable development commitments. Operational delivery is now taking place under Ashghal's stewardship and in compliance with national regulatory, safety and environmental frameworks.

The operational phase forms part of Ashghal's mandate to strengthen national infrastructure and promote efficient resource management while ensuring long term delivery of safe, reliable and sustainable wastewater services across the State of Qatar. Transition activities were implemented under Ashghal's governance with a focus on regulatory compliance, operational readiness, safety and environmental responsibility. Structured mobilisation included system familiarisation, training programmes and joint operational reviews to secure continuity as operations reached steady state.

The partnership covers defined wastewater treatment and network operations across a designated catchment zone in Qatar South, with SAUR acting as one of Ashghal's framework contractors to support operational delivery. SAUR's contribution draws on international experience in operating complex wastewater treatment facilities in urban and industrial environments and reflects an emphasis on established practices and a strong safety culture. The arrangement is intended to reinforce long term service resilience and environmental sustainability.

The Executive Chairman of SAUR Group, Patrick Blethon, was reported to have underlined that the operational phase represents a decisive period when reliability, safety and continuity are tested daily and that SAUR teams are fully mobilised to support wastewater operations in partnership with Ashghal and within national regulatory frameworks. The statement was framed to emphasise readiness and alignment with national priorities. This framing reinforces Ashghal's governance role while leveraging specialised operational expertise.

SAUR is operating in over 25 countries and serves 20 million (mn) consumers, partnering with 9,200 local authorities and industrial clients. In 2024 the group generated over two point three billion (bn) in revenue and employed 12,000 people worldwide, with operations across Europe, the Middle East and the United States. The organisation is committed to ecological transition and restoring water to its true value.
