Lieutenant Governor Dedicates Rs 1.56 Billion Tawi Riverfront Project

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha dedicated the Tawi Riverfront Project to the public on Baisakhi. The project was delivered at a cost of Rs 1.56 billion (bn), converted from the original figure of Rs 156 crore, and is intended to open a new civic space along the Tawi river.

The office of the Lieutenant Governor said the project aims to rejuvenate the riverfront, improve urban aesthetics and strengthen flood protection measures. Officials described the initiative as part of broader urban renewal plans that seek to enhance tourism and local economic activity. The project will be accessible to residents and visitors throughout the year.

Work on the riverfront has focused on landscaping, pedestrian promenades and public amenities to encourage recreational use while addressing environmental concerns. The development plan also improves connectivity between adjacent neighbourhoods and provides spaces for cultural events. Authorities noted that ongoing maintenance will be important to preserve the benefits of the investment.

The dedication on Baisakhi was presented as symbolic of renewal and community engagement by the administration. Officials expressed a commitment to monitor the project and to integrate it with other infrastructure schemes across the region. The opening marks a milestone in the government’s efforts to revitalise urban waterways and public spaces.

Officials said the project incorporates sustainable design principles and resilient landscaping to reduce maintenance costs and support river ecology. The administration indicated that public lighting, seating and wayfinding will be provided to ensure safety and usability at all hours. Community outreach will continue to inform programming and preserve cultural links along the river. Local urban planners will monitor environmental indicators and service quality as part of a phased review process.
