Guwahati Airport Records Highest-Ever Passenger Traffic in 2025

Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport (LGBIA), Guwahati, recorded its highest-ever passenger traffic in calendar year 2025, handling a total of 7.01 million passengers, according to a statement issued by the airport operator.

Managed by Guwahati International Airport (GIAL), a subsidiary of Adani Airport Holdings (AAHL), the airport witnessed strong growth in both domestic and international travel during the year. Of the total passenger traffic, 3.5 million were domestic arrivals and 3.4 million were domestic departures. International traffic included 45,423 arrivals and 45,474 departures, reflecting a steady rise in overseas connectivity from the Northeast.

The airport also achieved a significant milestone in cargo operations. In December 2025, the GIAL Cargo Terminal handled 374 metric tonnes of perishable cargo. The terminal recorded its highest-ever monthly cargo throughput of 1,362 metric tonnes during the month, along with its highest single-day handling of 60 metric tonnes on December 22.

Passenger traffic peaked on October 5, when the airport managed a single-day record of 22,089 passengers, including transit travellers. Officials said the milestone highlights the impact of ongoing infrastructure development, which has enhanced the airport’s capacity to efficiently manage rising passenger volumes.

LGBIA further expanded its international route network in 2025 with the launch of direct flights to Paro, Bangkok and Singapore. These additions contributed to a rise in international passenger numbers and aircraft traffic movements. During the year, the airport handled 47,550 domestic aircraft movements and around 1,000 international movements.

Cargo operations also saw strong growth, with a total of 32,990 metric tonnes handled during the year, reinforcing the airport’s emerging role as a key cargo hub for the Northeast.

Guwahati International Airport Limited is operated under a 50-year public-private partnership concession between AAHL, a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises, and the Airports Authority of India, and continues to strengthen its position as a major gateway to the region.
