Government Sanctions Rs 980 Billion For Telangana Road Development

The central government has sanctioned Rs 980 billion (Rs 98,000 crore) for road development across Telangana. The package will fund approach roads worth Rs 1,480 million (mn) to improve connectivity for around 300 villages and the development of 6,000 km of roads under the Hybrid Annuity Model at a cost of Rs 130 billion (bn). Works are set to begin shortly after completion of price bids and the plan prioritises regional connectivity.

Upgradation of the Hyderabad–Vijayawada National Highway has been approved into an eight?lane corridor at an estimated cost of Rs 200 billion (bn). The programme also includes construction of flyovers and bridges at accident?prone black spots, including Choutuppal and Chityal, with an outlay of Rs 5,000 million (mn). A proposed greenfield road linking Future City to Amaravati–Bandar Port has alignment proposals submitted to the Centre and a parallel alignment for a bullet train has been envisaged.

An allocation of Rs 80 billion (bn) has been made for a 52?km elevated corridor from Mannanur to Srisailam to ease long?distance travel and reduce congestion. The Regional Ring Road has been sanctioned at Rs 360 billion (bn), a project described by officials as transformative for metropolitan mobility, and the state has already deposited Rs 6,280 million (mn) towards land acquisition for the northern section with the National Highways Authority of India.

The plan also provides for a double?decker elevated corridor from LB Nagar to Hayathnagar at a cost of Rs 9,410 million (mn), to be financed with Rs 7,410 million (mn) from the Centre and Rs 2,000 million (mn) from the state.
