PM To Dedicate Rail Projects Worth Rs 15.35 Billion in Telangana

The Prime Minister will dedicate to the nation railway infrastructure projects worth Rs 15.35 billion (bn) in Telangana on 10 May 2026, marking a major step towards strengthening rail connectivity and operational efficiency in the region. The package, announced by Indian Railways, centres on multi-tracking works on the Kazipet–Vijayawada corridor and a bypass at Kazipet Junction intended to reduce congestion and speed up passenger and freight services.

A principal element is multi-tracking of 118 km across sections including Warangal–Kazipet, Nekonda–Mahabubabad and Errupalem–Dornakal Junction, which will increase line capacity and enable smoother train movements. The corridor forms part of the busy Grand Trunk route connecting northern and southern India and will improve punctuality while reducing detention of freight services. The works will benefit the districts of Hanumakonda, Warangal, Mahabubabad and Khammam and support faster movement of coal, cement and agricultural freight.

The 21 km Kazipet rail under rail bypass will ease traffic at Kazipet Junction and allow simultaneous movements towards Hyderabad, Balharshah and Vijayawada, reducing operational conflicts and crossing delays. The bypass is intended to enhance operational flexibility and decrease waiting time for both passenger and freight trains, thereby streamlining train operations. Improved freight efficiency on the Delhi–Chennai route is also anticipated as direct movements reduce routing conflicts at the junction.

Together these interventions reflect Indian Railways' commitment to building a high-capacity, future-ready network that supports economic growth and improves passenger mobility across Telangana and neighbouring states. The projects are expected to support local industries, farmers and businesses by enabling more efficient logistics, and to improve connectivity for nearby towns through better scheduling and reduced congestion-related delays. Authorities indicated the works will provide a safer and more reliable travel experience and help meet rising transport demand.
