Eighteen Gujarat Stations Get Rs 1.64 Billion Upgrade

Eighteen railway stations across Gujarat have been modernised with Rs 1.64 billion investment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, benefiting over 200,000 daily passengers and 1,150 trains. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate these stations on Thursday.

The upgrades cover Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar divisions. Vadodara has five upgraded stations, Rajkot and Bhavnagar six each, and Ahmedabad one.

Derol station in Vadodara received the highest investment of Rs 270 million, featuring dual entry points, a 12-metre-wide foot overbridge with lifts, landscaped green zones, and a new building housing booking offices and a concourse. Heritage features are preserved while modern amenities such as LED lighting and coach guidance displays were added.

Samakhiali station in Kutch, an NSG-4 category facility upgraded at Rs 136.4 million, is a key trade hub handling 48 trains and 700–1,000 passengers daily. It showcases traditional Kutch Mud Art and provides extended platforms, tactile tiles, and enhanced seating.

Tourist stations like Mahuva, Palitana, Dakor, and Karamsad received heritage-inspired upgrades, including murals and architectural elements reflecting local culture.

Stations serving industrial and port areas such as Hapa, Kanalus, Mithapur, Okha, and Rajula also underwent improvements. Morbi, Utran, and Sihor Junction were modernised while preserving their heritage significance.
