The secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Manoj Joshi, flagged off the country's first lightweight train with an aluminium body for the Maharashtra Metro's Pune Project at an event in Kolkata's Uttarpara.

Joshi told the media that the country is developing a new ecosystem as a result of metro projects.

The production of such a train is a significant step forward in the 'Make in India' movement. The Maharashtra Metro managing director (MD), Dr Dixit, was congratulated by the MoHUA Secretary for making the bold decision to use the aluminium-made train, he said.

According to Dixit, the first time such a lightweight aluminium-body train has been manufactured in India, and its use for the Maha Metro project is a significant step forward.

According to Dixit, work on the Nagpur Metro project began in 2015. At the time, there was no company in the country that made metro trains. Since then, much progress has been made in this area.

Two lines of the Pune project have recently begun service, and passenger service on the remaining lines will begin soon.

He told the media that the state government has provided extensive cooperation in the implementation of Metro projects in the state.

Jaydeep, OSD, MoHUA, said that the use of aluminium coaches was a major achievement for the country's MRT projects.

This is a step toward realising the government's vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
