PMC Identifies 34 Parking Sites Near Pune Metro Stations

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has identified 34 locations near Metro stations for the development of parking facilities, with work under way at four sites. The measures form part of a broader effort to integrate parking with the Pune Metro network and ease access for commuters. As of March 2026 the system already provides pay-and-park facilities at eight major stations on Line one (Purple Line) and Line two (Aqua Line). The plan includes additional spaces for the new Line three linking Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar.

A joint committee of PMC and Metro officials carried out a survey to assess suitable sites and finalised the 34 locations, according to Dinkar Gojare, chief engineer of the PMC project department. Work has begun at four of the selected sites and preparations are under way to commence construction at several others. The sites span all three Metro lines including the upcoming Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar corridor, and planners expect the new parking to support multimodal journeys and reduce congestion around stations.

Representatives of citizen groups welcomed the initiative as a step towards encouraging greater use of public transport and improving last-mile connectivity. A representative of Pune City Eye advised that the administration should concentrate on strengthening public transport and allied infrastructure to ensure the Metro achieves its intended benefits. Urban planners noted that improving convenient links from homes and offices to Metro stations is essential, and that inadequate connections currently compel many commuters to continue relying on private vehicles.

The civic administration has asked Maha Metro to study the feasibility of a proposed line between Wakad, Katraj and Shewalewadi and to assess whether it can be incorporated into the city's Comprehensive Mobility Plan. Officials said integrating future corridors with parking and feeder services will be important to maximise ridership and enhance the overall effectiveness of the Metro network.
