In a major boost to Nagpur's infrastructure development, Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) has been awarded a contract by MahaMetro for the construction of six elevated Metro stations under the Phase 2 expansion of the Nagpur Metro project. The new Metro stations will be located at Cantonment, Kamptee Police Station, Kamptee Municipal Council, Dragon Palace, Golf Club, and Kanhan River. MahaMetro had invited bids for this project in January 2024, with a completion timeline set for 30 months (2.5 years).

RVNL emerged as the lowest bidder in the competitive process, although details of other bids were not disclosed. The Phase 2 expansion plans include four new routes totaling 43.8 km and 32 stations. The routes encompass:

Automotive Square to Kanhan (13 km, 12 stations) MIHAN to Butibori MIDC ESR (18.5 km, 10 stations) Prajapati Nagar to Transport Nagar (5.6 km, 3 stations) Lokmanya Nagar to Hingna (6.7 km, 7 stations) This expansion, estimated to cost approximately ?6,717 crore, is poised to significantly enhance Nagpur's public transportation network.

Earlier this week, MahaMetro also received bids for the construction of a 5.9 km viaduct that will connect these stations, with major firms such as Tata Projects and ITD Cementation participating.

RVNL's contract for Package C-08 marks its third involvement in the Phase 2 expansion of the Nagpur Metro, having previously secured contracts for Package C-01 (Reach 1A) and Package C-05 (Reach 1A & 2A). The term ?Packages? refers to specific segments of construction, covering tasks such as station construction and track laying, while ?Reach? delineates various sections within the Metro project to facilitate management and execution.

This initiative underscores the ongoing commitment to enhancing Nagpur's infrastructure and public transport facilities, paving the way for a more connected and accessible city.
