Surat to be India’s 1st bullet train station by Dec 2024

Surat plans to have its own swanky bullet train station.The Minister of State for Railways, Darshana Jardosh, said that a graphical illustration of the railway station is scheduled for completion by December 2024.

This bullet train station in Surat will be the first one built along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route, while the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project will be India's first bullet train project.

The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) is responsible for constructing the bullet train project.

The construction has started on Chainage 264. Simultaneously, the construction work of pile, pile cap and pillar between Chainage 358 to 360 is ongoing in Bharuch district.

From the 508.17 km Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail project, 155.76 km is in Maharashtra, 384.04 km in Gujarat and 4.3 km in Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

Besides Surat, work on three more stations, including Vapi, Bilimora and Bharuch, has been accelerated, and all four stations will be ready by December 2024.

The high-speed rail project will also have stations at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisor, Vadodara Ahmedabad and Sabarmati.

The estimated cost of the project is over Rs 1 lakh crore, out of which Rs 88,000 crore will be funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
