Tripura CM Urges Timely Urban Projects And City Safety Measures

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha urged officials to fast-track urban development projects, insisting on strict deadlines, high-quality execution and sustained maintenance to serve citizens effectively. The direction came during a review meeting on May two at the war room at his official residence, TIFT, when he reviewed progress across the Urban Development Department and urban bodies. He ordered swift completion of key initiatives under the Tripura Urban Development Authority (TUDA), including the Junction Gate in Agartala and the Lighthouse Project at the Akhaura border.

Saha prioritised the city hospital project to bolster public health services and directed rapid rollout of CCTV cameras across urban areas as part of a broader modernisation drive. He also mandated railings on footpaths to safeguard pedestrians and reduce accident risk. Officials were instructed to plan maintenance schedules and ensure that new works include provisions for long-term upkeep.

Other directives covered acceleration of the Gomati river front development in Udaipur, upkeep of existing pump houses and construction of new pump houses where required. He approved progress on near-completion of pink toilets in 20 urban locales and called for proper placement or recycling of idols after puja to protect the environment, assigning responsibility to the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC). Regular door-to-door garbage collection and enhanced solid waste management were emphasised to improve urban sanitation.

Discussions reviewed major schemes such as the Mukhyamantri Urban Development Project, the Satellite Township plan, AMRUT 2.0, Asian Development Bank (ADB) initiatives, the Smart City Mission, city beautification and SASCI to ensure coordinated delivery. Saha observed that on-time delivery of these public welfare efforts would reinforce administrative accountability and public trust. Senior officials present included Chief Secretary J K Sinha, Urban Development Secretary Milind Ramteke, Finance Secretary Apurba Roy, Agartala Municipal Corporation Commissioner Saju Wahid A, Urban Development Director Megha Jain and TUDA Commissioner Mihir Kanti Gop. The measures were described as aimed at improving public services and strengthening city safety.
