Mumbai Metro Two B And Nine, Twin Tunnel And Pod Taxi To Launch

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will inaugurate a series of transport infrastructure projects on seven April after an earlier ceremony scheduled for three April was postponed. The programme will be attended by the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and both deputy chief ministers.

The programme will open Phase I sections of Mumbai Metro Line two B and Mumbai Metro Line nine and will include foundation ceremonies for the Thane–Borivali twin tunnel and a proposed pod taxi network in the Bandra Kurla Complex. Authorities indicated the projects aim to improve east–west connectivity and last-mile links across the metropolitan area.

The first phase of Line two B covers a five point four km stretch between Diamond Garden and Mandale and has received safety clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety. The corridor will feature five stations, Diamond Garden, Shivaji Chowk, BSNL Metro, Mankhurd and Mandale, and is expected to strengthen east–west links in the eastern suburbs.

The Phase I stretch of Line nine spans four point nine seven km between Dahisar East and Kashigaon and will open after trial runs and safety approvals. The twin tunnel scheme will comprise two traffic lanes and one emergency lane in each direction with safety cross passages every 300 metres and the first tunnel boring machine, named Nayak, will be launched during the ceremony.

The proposed pod taxi network in the Bandra Kurla Complex will run roughly eight km with 33 stations, and each automated pod will carry up to six passengers at speeds of up to 40 kmph with short intervals between vehicles. Officials said the measures are intended to ease congestion and complement existing mass transit, and the combined openings and foundation ceremonies mark a significant step in the region's infrastructure expansion.

How Hormuz is Hijacking Indian Highways

At the recently held RAHSTA Round Table on 29th April in Pune, and earlier during our webinars for Cement Expo by Indian Cement Review and by FIRST Construction Council on manufacturing construction equipment for the world, one thread lay common: the industry is being subjected to a cost-push chain reaction moving from crude oil → freight/insurance → steel, cement fuel, bitumen, polymers, packaging, logistics and finally project margins. Indeed, the West Asia crisis caused by the war and the Hormuz Strait blockade, which does not directly concern us, has turned around and hit us. If the wa..
