Jamshedpur MP Seeks Rs 4,820 Million Plan For Tatanagar Platforms

Member of Parliament Bidyut Baran Mahato held a meeting with Vikas Jain, Executive Director (Public Grievances) of the Railway Board, following a special session of Parliament to press for accelerated rail infrastructure work around Jamshedpur and Tatanagar. The discussions addressed a range of projects that the ministry is prioritising for the area. Final Location Surveys for the construction of the fourth and fifth railway lines between Pandrasali and Kandra and for the development of a satellite station near Tatanagar have already been approved, clearing the way for detailed planning.

Mahato urged swift approval of two pending schemes that aim to expand capacity at Tatanagar Railway Station and service facilities for modern trains. The construction of four additional loop lines and platforms at Tatanagar, estimated at Rs 482 crore, converts to 4,820 million (mn), and will be executed under the central Gati Shakti initiative. A separate proposal for a Vande Bharat coach depot valued at Rs 383.78 crore converts to 3,837.8 mn and remains under consideration by the Railway Board.

The meeting also covered revisions to proposed long distance services and coach composition for existing trains. The railway minister has asked that the Tata–Jaipur proposal be redrawn to identify the shortest feasible route, on the basis that the current alignment would take excessive time. On Antyodaya services, Mahato pressed for a balanced composition of general and reserved category coaches to improve commercial viability, a suggestion the Railway Board is examining.

Mahato further requested an additional train linking Tata with Bengaluru via Kharagpur, Bhubaneswar, parts of Andhra Pradesh and Katpadi, and officials said feasibility studies are under way. Railway representatives indicated that both route proposals and depot plans have been escalated to ministerial level for prompt action. Mahato expressed confidence that the approved surveys and pending clearances will bring a significant transformation to Tatanagar station and its services in the near term.
