Pune Airport Redevelopment Gains Government Backing

With the new integrated terminal now operational, work has begun to redevelop the old terminal at Pune Airport. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol confirmed that the reconstruction is progressing rapidly and is expected to finish by end-2025.

The terminal currently spans 36,000 square metres. An additional 6,000 square metres will be added, creating capacity for 48 check-in counters, two automated boarding gates, a new departure gate and larger ticketing facilities. Once complete, the airport will handle up to 10.5 million passengers annually.

The central government has allocated Rs 250 million for the project. Airports Authority of India officials noted that this upgrade responds to rising air traffic and growing infrastructure demand.

Mohol also confirmed that the Obstacle Limitation Survey for runway extension has been successfully completed. The survey assesses the feasibility of accommodating larger aircraft and more international flights. Talks are underway with the Air Force for land acquisition to proceed.

The acquisition is expected to conclude within the next seven to eight months.
