BMRCL to Construct Pedestrian Bridge Near Challaghatta Metro Station

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced plans for the construction of a much-needed pedestrian bridge near Challaghatta Metro station, spanning the bustling Bengaluru-Mysuru National Highway. Scheduled for completion by September 2024, this initiative aims to significantly enhance safety and connectivity for both Namma metro commuters and pedestrians in the area.

The bridge, with a user-friendly design, will provide a safe and convenient link across the busy highway, offering particular benefits to students from nearby educational institutions such as Rajarajeshwari Medical College and ACS College of Engineering. With an estimated daily footfall of around 10,000 passengers at the metro station, especially during peak hours, the bridge is poised to alleviate congestion and ensure smoother pedestrian movement.

Constructed at a cost of ?22.2 million, the pedestrian bridge will feature stairs and elevators to cater to all users, ensuring accessibility for individuals of all abilities. This comprehensive approach to design underscores BMRCL's commitment to inclusivity and safety.

Local residents and students have welcomed the announcement with relief and anticipation. Anusha, a student, expressed her gratitude, stating, "Crossing the highway without a proper crossing is risky, and this bridge will make things much easier and safer." Shilpa echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the time-saving and safety benefits the bridge will offer during peak traffic hours.

In addition to the bridge, BMRCL officials have confirmed plans for the construction of a 100-meter footpath connecting the bridge to the metro station. This additional infrastructure will provide a seamless and secure passage for pedestrians, further enhancing accessibility and convenience for commuters in the area.
